about

This quirky song celebrates “all the brains of the world,” or the neuro-diversity of kids in a typical group or classroom. The lyrics play off the usual hip-hop antic of putting hands up if you’re feeling the energy of an emcee or music. Kids recognize the “elbows up” gesture, and they celebrate their uniqueness. The lyrics speak to kids: “You might not understand me ‘cause I speak with my eyes. If you listen closely, you might recognize there’s a story being told - so try and understand.”

Introduction:
This song goes out to all the brains of the world
We all got them, they all work differently.
You feel like you don’t fit in? Well…

CHORUS:
I’m odd I’m weird I’m out of place
I’m a retro head from outer space
if you’re here and a weirdo just like me
Put an elbow up in the place to be

Verse 1:
You might not hear me, ‘cause I speak with my eyes
If you listen closely you might recognize
There’s a story being told so try to understand
If you can’t hear my eyes I can speak with my hands

Slide up to the sun, swim back down
Land in the kitchen, my food is pure sound
Carrots are kinda loud, peas are quite quiet
The beat it made when I bit down?------- I liked it.

Pre-chorus:
When I’m walking to school it’s just me
When I sing in my head it’s just me
I can do it, I can do it! Look it! Look it, I can do it!
Yea, you see all this right here? Well, that’s me.
When I’m dancing and swaying, it’s me
When I’m running from shade, it’s just me
The way that I laugh, or draw or do math
I’m-a I’m-a I’m-a I’m-a do me

Chorus

Verse 2:
When I’m feeling stuck or kind of out of luck
I put on my favorite shoes, which are really rubber ducks
Then I set out to take a long walk -- you know why?
Every step I take puts me closer to the sky!
And on top of all that? I land on the ground with a boom and a quack

I’m here - stuck - counting colors on our shoes
If I had it my way, I would paint them all blue
That’s the only color that makes me feel right
Otherwise I’m frustrated -- can’t see the light
Woah ----- it’s like this everyday!
All my odd family, let me hear you say -- Ho!

Prechorus

Bridge
Run on the sand
Jump off the rock
Swing through the tree
Jet through the clouds
Float through the atmosphere
Up to outer space
Bounce off a crater
Crash into Mars
Spin into stars
Slip through the milky way
On the rise now let’s take a ride and
You can drive my mind!
Now take us to the finish line….

Chorus (repeats)
